From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin
The Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bala Bawa Bodinga, has assured residents of the state of strengthened security architecture aimed at protecting lives, property and critical national assets.
Speaking with journalists at the NSCDC headquarters in Ilorin, Bodinga said his assumption of office followed directives from the Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to reposition the command for more effective service delivery.
He noted that while security strategies cannot be fully disclosed, concrete steps have already been taken to improve surveillance and rapid response across the state.
“Not all security tactics and plans are meant for public consumption, but I can assure you that necessary mechanisms have been put in place to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as the lives and property of our people,” he said.
The Commandant disclosed that 24-hour surveillance has been activated across Ilorin metropolis, stressing that operatives are on continuous patrol, particularly at night.
“You can move round Ilorin at night and you will see our personnel on duty. There is no break in our operations,” he stated.
As part of efforts to safeguard places of worship, Bodinga directed that adequate security be provided for all Jumat prayers on Fridays and church services on Sundays. He added that security coverage would also be extended to special religious gatherings beyond regular worship days.
In response to recent security concerns in parts of the state, the Commandant confirmed the deployment of additional personnel to Kiyama and other identified locations.
“We have reinforced our presence in affected areas. Our men are on ground and the situation is under control,” he assured.
Bodinga emphasised the importance of synergy with other security agencies, revealing that he has established active collaboration with heads of sister agencies in the state.
“Security is not a one-man business. We are working closely with other security organisations. We share intelligence both overtly and covertly to ensure proactive measures are taken,” he said.
On capacity building, the Commandant stressed that training and retraining of personnel remain a priority under his leadership. According to him, as a trained intelligence officer and seasoned operations commander, he understands the importance of continuous professional development.
“There are certain trainings we cannot publicly announce, but I assure you our operatives will be well trained technically and operationally for effective service delivery,” he said.
He further disclosed that the state command would strengthen VIP protection arrangements, noting that he recently participated in high-level training for heads of operations and VIP protection units.
“All necessary modalities have been put in place to ensure effective VIP protection. We will respond promptly to legitimate requests,” he added.
Bodinga, who has served in various operational and command capacities across the country, pledged to build on existing security structures in Kwara and deliver improved results.
He commended members of the media for their role in promoting security awareness and called for sustained cooperation.
“You are doing a very critical job. Without information, security cannot be enhanced. We will continue to work with you for the safety of Kwara State,” he said.
