The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has commended the Nigerian Universities Nursing Students Association (NUNSA), for its role and interest in emergency preparedness, disaster response, and humanitarian service, describing them as critical stakeholders in strengthening Nigeria’s emergency management architecture.

The commendation was given during a courtesy visit by a delegation of NUNSA to NEMA headquarters Abuja, where the Association presented an award to the Director-General in recognition of her leadership and contributions to humanitarian and emergency management in Nigeria.
The delegation was led by the President of NUNSA, Nurse Gemaliura Obadiah, a student of the University of Maiduguri, alongside members of the Association drawn from various universities across the country visited the DG.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Director-General, the Director of Human Resources Management, Dr. Emenike Umesi, conveyed Mrs Zubaida Umar’s appreciation to them for the visit and the honour bestowed on her.
He also conveyed commendation of the Director-General to the nursing students for their interest in emergency preparedness, disaster response, and humanitarian service, noting that nursing professionals play a vital role in emergency and crisis situations.
Umesi encouraged the students to remain committed to their academic and professional development, describing nursing as a critical component of effective disaster management.
In his remarks, the NUNSA President, Nurse Gemaliura Emmanuel Obadiah, said the visit was aimed at strengthening engagement with NEMA and appreciating the Agency’s leadership for its continued support to emergency response and interventions nationwide.
