From David Onuoja, Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Enugu Region, has commissioned a new 75MVA 132/33kV power transformer at its Mile 50 Abakaliki Transmission Substation, Ebonyi State.

According to the General Manager, TCN, Ndidi Mbah, said, the commissioning has boosted the substation’s capacity to 135MVA, enhancing its wheeling capacity and enabling more bulk power supply to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company for distribution to Ebonyi State and parts of Cross River State.

The TCN General Manager, Enugu Region, Dr. Thomas Inugonum, revealed that TCN has approved the procurement of a new 60MVA power transformer to replace a decommissioned leaking unit. This he said will add 48MW to the substation’s capacity upon completion.

This transformer project is part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects aimed at further enhancing power supply in Nigeria.
