From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A youth-driven progressive group, City Boy Builds Nigeria (CBN), Kwara Central Chapter, has thrown its weight behind the Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Senator Lola Ashiru, endorsing him as its preferred governorship aspirant ahead of the 2027 election in Kwara State.

The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued on Wednesday in Ilorin by the group’s Joint Consultative Assembly, following what it described as extensive consultations with stakeholders across the four local government areas of Kwara Central Senatorial District.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Bashir Erubu, said the decision to support Senator Ashiru, was unanimous, noting that his leadership credentials, experience and political temperament stood him out among other potential contenders.

According to Erubu, “Senator Ashiru’s political maturity, consistency, legislative competence and loyalty to progressive ideals clearly distinguish him as the kind of leader Kwara needs at this stage. He has also shown a proven capacity to build bridges across political and social divides.”

He added that the group was convinced of the senator’s ability to deepen development and promote inclusiveness across the state, stressing that Kwara requires leadership capable of sustaining long-term political and economic stability.

“We strongly believe he can effectively domesticate and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda in Kwara for the benefit of all citizens. The future of Kwara must be deliberately built and not left to chance,” Erubu said.

The group also called on youths, progressives and other stakeholders across Kwara Central and beyond to rally behind what it described as principled leadership with clear values and a shared vision for development.

In the communiqué, the assembly commended the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, for sustaining the progressive governance tradition in the state, particularly in key sectors that have positively impacted residents.

Also speaking, a CBN Mobiliser, Mr Hammed Bolaji, said the group’s confidence in Senator Ashiru was rooted in his track record of service and people-oriented politics.

“Senator Ashiru has consistently demonstrated a progressive mindset and genuine concern for the welfare of the people. His record gives us confidence that Kwara will be in safe hands going forward,” Bolaji said.

City Boy Builds Nigeria, is a youth-focused progressive movement aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.
