From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

In a bid to ease the hardship faced by widows during the festive season, the Worthy Life Foundation, has distributed food items to 20 widows in Ilorin, Kwara State, offering both material support and emotional encouragement.

Speaking during the distribution on Saturday, the Executive Director of the foundation, Mrs Oluwatoyin Abayomi, said the gesture was meant to go beyond food assistance, stressing that it was a message of hope and reassurance to the beneficiaries.

According to her, the food packs symbolise care, solidarity and respect, reminding the widows that they are loved, valued and not forgotten by society.

Drawing from her personal experience, Mrs Abayomi disclosed that she has been a widow for over 10 years, a journey she said has given her a deeper understanding of the challenges many widows face.

“What we are doing may be little, but it is to give them hope and make them know they are not alone, especially at this season, so they can feel remembered.”

She urged the widows to remain steadfast and praised their resilience in the face of adversity, noting that the outreach was aimed at uplifting both their bodies and spirits.

“We see your strength, we honour your journey and embrace you with compassion. Your courage in the face of loss is remarkable, and today is about letting you know that you are not forgotten,” she added.

Also speaking, a Board Director of the foundation, Pastor Abel Aiyedogbon, explained that supporting the less privileged remains a core objective of the Worthy Life Foundation, made possible through the support of donors and partners.

He said extending help to widows, who are among the most vulnerable in society, would provide comfort and much-needed relief, while calling on government and well-meaning individuals to support vulnerable groups through food and other essential items.

Another board member, Mr Adeolu Otegbola, described the outreach as a call for compassion and collective responsibility, urging Nigerians to look out for one another.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the foundation for the timely support. Mrs Victoria Kolade thanked the organisation for putting smiles on the faces of the widows, while Grace Oyewole commended the foundation for sacrificing its resources to give them hope during the festive period.

Items distributed to the widows included bags of rice, garri, semovita, spaghetti and beans.
