From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Residents of Ilorin have been urged to remain vigilant after armed robbers attacked a Sienna vehicle along Post Office Road on Friday, injuring the driver and escaping with an undisclosed amount of money.

The Kwara State Police Command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, confirmed that the incident occurred at about 11:30am. According to the statement, the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the palm, is receiving medical care.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a discreet investigation into the attack and immediately intensified security patrols across Ilorin. He also deployed additional personnel to boost police visibility and reassure residents of their safety.

He further cautioned residents against moving around with large sums of cash, noting that such practices make individuals easy targets. Instead, he encouraged greater use of digital banking platforms.

Where cash movement is unavoidable, we strongly advise residents to make use of bank-approved escort services, he added.

The command also appealed to the public to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities around banks and other financial locations to the nearest security formation.
