From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Tragedy struck the Ikoyi community in Irewolede area of Ilorin West Local Government Area on Saturday, November 15, 2025, when a 12-year-old girl, identified as Nabilat, fell into a domestic well and lost her life.

The Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement by PFO Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Director of the Service. The fire brigade was alerted around 10:35 a.m. by a neighbour, Mr. Mayowa, and quickly mobilised to the scene.

Firefighters successfully recovered the girl’s body and handed it over to her family. Reports indicate that Nabilat was fetching water when she slipped and fell into the well.

Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, urged parents and guardians to exercise caution. He emphasised the need to supervise children closely and avoid sending minors to draw water from domestic wells. “This heartbreaking event reminds us all to be vigilant in our daily activities and to protect our children from unnecessary risks,” he said.
