From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of five forest guards, who lost their lives while repelling a midnight attack by armed bandits, on a security outpost in Nuku community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Governor described the slain personnel as heroes who paid the ultimate price in defence of their communities, noting that they put up a fierce resistance that reportedly neutralised several of the attackers during the confrontation.

“This tragic incident again highlights the persistent threats posed by criminal elements to our communities,” he said, commending the courage of the forest guards and the wider security forces involved in the operation.

“I commend the efforts of the security agencies in this theatre and urge them to do more. Nothing can truly compensate for the ultimate sacrifice that the fallen guards have made on our behalf. Our sincere condolences go to their families and communities. They will forever remain our heroes,” he added.

AbdulRazaq further assured that the state government would stand by the families of the deceased, praying for the repose of their souls and reaffirming commitment to the fight against insecurity.

In a related development, the Governor has approved the formation of the Kwara State Security Strategy Committee, made up of Kwara-born retired military generals and senior security officers, to strengthen the state’s security framework.

Members of the committee include retired Major General GA Wahab (chairman), Maj. Gen. Yemi Abidoye, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Ndalolo, Rear Admiral Aliyu Lawal, Air Commodore ASA Buhari, AIG Aderemi Opadokun, and Lt. Col. WA Lawal. The Permanent Secretary (General Services), Shuaib Abdulganiyu, will serve as secretary.

The committee is expected to review and advise on enhanced security coordination across the state, with its inaugural meeting today, Friday, April 10, 2026.
