From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Site Supervisor of the Omu-Aran Water Works Rehabilitation Project in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Mr. Tunde Adewale, has disclosed that the project is now 90 per cent complete.

Adewale, who is a staff of DELKO International, made this known during a media tour by members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, to inspect ongoing government projects in Kwara South.

He explained that the project, which began in February 2025, had reached its final phase, with all treatment plants and pumps fully installed.

“All the treatment plants are set, and the pumps have been installed in line with the directives of the Kwara State Government,” Adewale said. “We have done a 1,200-kilometre expansion that will cover about 50 per cent of the community when completed. The only thing left is the installation of a 500KV transformer to power the facility.”

He further revealed that the new pumps are capable of pumping 70 litres of water per second and can reach a head of 160 metres, ensuring improved water supply once the project becomes operational.

In his remarks, the Petu Aran of Omu-Aran, High Chief Lawrence Oladele Ajiboye, expressed delight at the progress of the project, describing it as a long-awaited relief for the community.

“The entire Omu-Aran community is in a joyous mood because this project will bring back our once vibrant water system,” he said. “The Omu-Aran Urban Water Supply Project was first commissioned in 1979 and served our community and neighbouring towns before it went down. We are grateful to our people’s governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for reviving it.”

Ajiboye also appealed for more manpower and engineers to oversee the operations of the water scheme to ensure its sustainability.

He further commended the governor for approving the construction of the Omu-Aran 5km township road, noting that the projects would significantly enhance the quality of life in the community.
