From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Umar Mohammed, has called for closer cooperation between security agencies and private guard companies to strengthen the fight against insecurity in the state.

Speaking at a security summit in Ilorin recently, Commandant Umar, said the growing threats of banditry, kidnapping, cultism, and cybercrime demand a united front.

The summit, jointly organised by the NSCDC and the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), focused on the role of private security guards in crime prevention and intelligence gathering.

“Private guard companies are often the first point of contact in our communities. When properly regulated and integrated, they can provide vital intelligence and support conventional security agencies in safeguarding lives and property,” Umar stated.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Security, Mallam Muyeeden Aliyu, commended security agencies for their efforts in maintaining peace and assured that government will continue to provide the necessary support.

Also speaking, the Chairman of ALPSPN in Kwara, Ambassador Samuel Bola, appealed for greater recognition of private security outfits, stressing that their knowledge of the local terrain makes them critical to effective intelligence gathering.

Delivering the keynote address, retired Police Spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, emphasised that synergy among all security stakeholders remains key to achieving a safer society.

The summit drew participants from security agencies, policymakers, and private guard operators, who agreed on the need for stronger partnerships and intelligence sharing to curb insecurity in the state.
