From Taiye Joseph Ilorin.

A marriage dispute in Ilorin, ended recently after an Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro, dissolved the union between Bashirat Qodri and her husband, Solihu Musa, following accusations of jealousy and neglect.

Qodri told the court she could no longer live with her husband because of his constant suspicion and harassment.

She explained that Musa had asked her to leave his house, after which she tried to secure another apartment.

According to her, the landlord insisted she must be married before renting the space.

“I begged the caretaker to stand in as my husband, but when my husband found out, he began harassing me, accusing me of fornication,” she said.

Musa, however, told the court that his wife moved into another man’s house with her three daughters, two from her previous marriage and one from him.

He accused her of neglecting the children and insisted he preferred divorce.

Presiding Judge Idris Etsu, ruled that since both parties no longer wished to remain together, the marriage should be dissolved.

He granted custody of the child to Qodri but directed her to observe a three-month iddah period before remarrying.

The court further ordered Musa to pay N10,000 monthly for the child’s upkeep, while also covering school fees and medical expenses when necessary. The father was also granted unrestricted access to visit his child at reasonable times.
