From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Chairman of the Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what he described as transformative governance that has greatly impacted the lives of Kwarans, particularly in the education and health sectors.

Ambali, made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, ahead of the final accreditation of the university’s medical school and the commencement of clinical training for medical students.

He noted that the decision of the AbdulRazaq-led administration to upgrade the state’s General Hospital into a Teaching Hospital, was a bold step that would not only aid the training of medical professionals but also improve healthcare delivery in the state.

“The present administration has embarked on projects that directly impact the lives of the people. Transforming the General Hospital into a Teaching Hospital will strengthen medical training and ultimately boost the provision of quality healthcare services in Kwara and its environs,” Ambali said.

He urged the hospital’s management to ensure adequate preparation for the upcoming accreditation exercise by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, stressing the need to kick-start clinical training immediately after approval is granted.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital, Dr. Bola Ahmed, expressed appreciation to Professor Ambali and KWASU Vice Chancellor, Professor Sheikh Luqman Jimoh, for their support in advancing the hospital’s development.

Dr. Ahmed also commended the state government for equipping the facility with modern medical tools, which he said have raised the standard of healthcare delivery in Kwara. “The government’s consistent provision of critical medical equipment, positions Kwara as a pacesetter in quality healthcare services in Nigeria,” he stated.

He assured that the hospital, with the support of the state government, is committed to providing the necessary facilities, manpower, and resources to meet accreditation standards while also serving the health needs of the people.

The Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Jimoh, and other top management officials of the Teaching Hospital were also in attendance at the meeting.
