The October 19 Local Government election in Kogi State began peacefully, as election materials arrived in time in most of the polling units.
Our Correspondent who visited some polling units in Lokoja, the state capital between 8.30a.m. and 10.00a.m., reported that accreditation and voting were conducted in an orderly manner under the watch of security agencies.
At 500 Units Polling Unit, Ganaja road Lokoja, at about 9.30 a m, voting was observed to be progressing smoothly, with large number of voters present.
Our Correspondent also noted a higher turnout of female voters compared to their male counterparts.
Some voters were observed exchanging pleasantries at the polling units visited.
However, government’s restriction on vehicular movement was not strictly observed, as some motorists were still seen on the roads during the voting process.
While some large business owners closed their doors to customers, operators of small businesses remained open during the restricted hours.
In the same vein, some proprietors of big business enterprises closed doors to customers, while operators of small commercial activities opened for business during the restricted hours.
Reports from various Local Government Areas across the State also indicated a peaceful atmosphere at the time of this report.
A total of 21 Chairmanship and over 200 Councillorship candidates are expected to emerge as winners at the end of the voting.
