The Adamawa State Government, has approved ₦673 million as compensation for owners of “Corner Shops” demolished at Target Junction in Jimeta, Yola, to make way for the Mother and Child Hospital.

The approval was part of contracts worth over ₦13.9 billion cleared at the 10th State Executive Council meeting of 2026, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, at the Government House, Yola.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Leader Leneke, said the approvals cover infrastructure, education, justice sector reforms, and economic development projects.

The council approved ₦8.6 billion for the construction of the 18-kilometre Shuwa–Bituku Road. The contract was awarded to Amijab Nigeria Limited with a 10-month completion timeline. The road is expected to improve access to several rural communities.

₦3.1 billion was approved for perimeter fencing of 20 secondary schools under the World Bank-funded Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment programme. The project aims to boost school security and prevent land encroachment.

The council ratified ₦347 million for road markings and kerb painting done ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit. The contract went to H. & H. Nigeria Limited. Another ₦516 million was approved for asphalting the Banquet Hall and Presidential Lodge premises at Government House, awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited.

₦322 million was approved to digitise seven Small Claims Courts under the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms programme. The initiative will allow e-filing of cases, virtual hearings, and faster resolution of commercial disputes.

The council also approved publication of the Business Enabling Reform Action Plan and the 2025 implementation progress report. The report will be uploaded to the state government’s website on or before July 31, 2026, as part of requirements for the 2026 SABER programme.

The council ratified the partial divestment of the state’s shares in Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. Adamawa originally held over 102 million units acquired during former Governor Murtala Nyako’s administration. The council approved the sale of about 70 million units.

₦367 million was approved for start-up packs for 1,433 beneficiaries graduating from Alternative Learning Centres under AGILE. The contract was awarded to RS & S Multilinks Investment Nigeria Limited. Beneficiaries trained in tailoring, fashion design, makeup, beauty therapy, and other trades will receive the packs to start businesses.

Leneke said the approvals reflect the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development, human capital investment, and improving the ease of doing business in Adamawa.
