The Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Trust Multipurpose Cooperative Society, located at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), has marked its 20th anniversary, celebrating a legacy of ethical finance and member-focused empowerment.

Established in July 2005 with 42 founding members, and operating from a small kiosk, IMAN Trust has grown into a significant non-interest financial institution with over 2,000 members and 12 staff, delivering Islamic-compliant financial services to thousands.

Speaking during the anniversary celebration, themed “Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping Our Future,” the President of the Cooperative, Professor Abdulrasheed Nasir, described the journey as one of resilience, built on Islamic ethics and a shared vision for financial inclusion.

“This is more than an anniversary, it’s a reflection of what a value-driven system can accomplish when people come together with purpose and faith,” Nasir said.

“We’ve disbursed thousands of interest-free loans, helped members achieve their Hajj dreams, and provided critical welfare support, all without compromising our religious values.”

Over the years, IMAN Trust has facilitated over 7,000 interest-free loans and managed thrift savings exceeding N1.2 billion. In the last six years alone, more than 774 members have accessed educational loans, while over 100 individuals and families have received support for Hajj pilgrimage.

In terms of asset financing, the cooperative has funded the acquisition of over 450 vehicles worth N913 million and supported the purchase of 120 properties estimated at N530 million. It has also enabled over 500 members to secure construction materials, amounting to over N1 billion in support. Additionally, IMAN Trust has invested N150 million in projects aimed at community development.

A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of a new five-year strategic plan. The roadmap includes a digital initiative known as i-TEC, aimed at automating and improving service delivery, as well as introducing new products, boosting member engagement, and enhancing financial literacy across its network.

Professor Nasir acknowledged the unwavering support of UITH and the enduring loyalty of members, noting that these partnerships have been central to the cooperative’s growth.

“As we move forward, our mission remains the same—empowerment built on transparency, justice, and compassion,” he added.
