Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, have neutralised a suspected bandit and recovered arms during a fighting patrol in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by Captain Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the operation was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, September 3, 2025, by soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Patigi.
The troops, acting on credible intelligence, laid an ambush along the Lema–Daban Lema road in Edu Local Government Area.
At about 12:10 a.m., they made contact with the armed bandits and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. The criminals, overwhelmed by superior firepower, fled in disarray.
In the follow-up operation, one bandit was neutralised while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a motorcycle. The remains of the bandit have been handed over to the relevant authorities.
Commending the soldiers, the Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, praised their vigilance and resilience, urging them to sustain the momentum.
He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to intensifying operations and ensuring the safety of lives and property across its operational areas.
