The House of Representative Member, representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, has died at the age of 39.
Hon. Adams, who died early this morning (Tuesday 18th) after a protracted illnesses, was the Chairman, House Committee on Sports at the 10th National Assembly.
It was gathered that, Adams’ death was the second to hit the House within a week, following the death of Hon. Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban) from Oyo State, who passed away on Wednesday, July 10.
The cause of his death has not been ascertained at the time of filing this report.
Hon. Adams, a former general manager of Kada City FC and Remo Stars, was elected into the House of Representatives on the platform of Labour Party (LP) in 2023.
With his sports background as a former athlete and administrator, he was appointed the Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Sports, the position he held before his death.
In another development, the National Assembly has suspended all legislative functions in honour of late Ekene Abubakar Adams.
Meanwhile, Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has expressed sadness over the death of Adams, the party’s legislator in the House of Representative.
Mr Obi, stated on his X handle on Tuesday, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, a member of the Labour Party in the House of Representatives from Kaduna State. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, family, and loved ones.
“His untimely death at the age of 39 is a tragic loss to the nation… his short tenure made significant contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria. His passion and expertise in this field will be greatly missed.
“May God Almighty who called him home at this time, forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest, and grant his family, and all of us, the fortitude to bear his sad irreplaceable loss.”
