From David Onuoja, Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Benin Region, said it has recently carried out a clearance exercise to remove structures encroaching on the new Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line in Ihovbor Community, Edo State.

The two-day operation took place from Wednesday, 18th to Friday, 20th February, 2026; with the aim of reclaiming TCN’s Right of Way (ROW) along the transmission corridor.

TCN added that, ahead of the exercise, the company had organised sensitization programmes to highlight the risks of encroachment on transmission lines; and issued a three-month notice to the host community and provided compensation to affected persons.

The clearance was conducted by a team from TCN’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, working with the Property Department. Traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other stakeholders were duly informed before the exercise commenced.

This action, it said was necessary to protect lives and property while safeguarding critical power infrastructure along the transmission corridor.
