*Arrest armed robbers with stolen iPhones in Ilorin

Swift action by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command and local vigilantes has thwarted a planned cult-related assassination and led to the arrest of two armed robbery suspects in Ilorin.

The suspects, identified as Ishola Adeyemi and Ismail Rafiu, both from Ibadan, Oyo State, were apprehended around 9 a.m. on August 10, 2025, following a robbery at Opeyewa Hostel in the Eleko area of the city.

Recovered items from the suspects include eleven iPhones, N30,500 cash, a WiFi device, two new long cutlasses, slippers, and other personal belongings.

According to police investigations, the duo confessed to being invited to Ilorin by a suspected member of the Eye Cult Fraternity, known as Qudus “Tiny,” to assassinate a rival cult member. When the attempt failed, they allegedly turned to robbing student hostels.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, praised the collaboration between residents and security personnel that led to the quick arrest, stressing that the command would not relent in its fight against violent crime.

“We will continue to work with communities to keep our streets safe. Residents must remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities without delay,” Ojo said.

The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
