From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Justice Haleema Salman of the Kwara State High Court, has reserved judgement in the six-year trial of six suspects involved in the infamous April 5, 2018, Offa bank robbery. The verdict is tentatively set for August 2, 2024.

During Monday’s court session, final written addresses were adopted, summarizing the arguments from both sides.

Rotimi Jacob (SAN), represented the state, while Mathew Emeribe, served as the defence counsel. The prosecution and defence teams presented their addresses sequentially on points of law.

The case has drawn significant attention due to its brutal nature. On April 5, 2018, armed robbers attacked five commercial banks in Offa, Kwara State, resulting in the deaths of over 30 individuals, including nine policemen.
