Nigeria parley with US on access to reliable, affordable power supply

The Federal Government has started discussion with the United States of America ( USA) on how to improve access to a reliable and affordable power supply in Nigeria.

In a meeting with the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu in Abuja recently, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Richard Mills expressed the US’ government support to Nigerian government in that direction.

According to him, “Our visit is on the commitment to improving access to reliable and affordable power supply to businesses and households in the country”.

It will be recalled that an American Company, Sun Africa LLC has been in discussion with the FG in the provision of power infrastructure to Nigeria.

Richard Mills used the occasion to invite the minister to the US energy summit which will come up on the 11th to12th September, 2024 in Washington saying, the summit major focus is on the Electricity Sector.

In his welcome speech, the minister said the power ministry has prioritized its programmes into five key areas which are; Legislative support to decentralize the power sector.

Also, he advocated for Policy Support to design a National Integrated Electricity Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan that would be the manual for sectoral policies; appropriate tariff to migrate the market and also upgrade the infrastructures.

Speaking on the status of the Sun Africa Power Project, the Minister assured the visiting team that a lot is been done to secure approval for a smooth operational takeoff.
