NDLEA hails HRH Ahmed Raheem’s Booklet on Drug Abuse

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has commended HRH, Ahmed  Abdul Raheem, the Ohi of Ihima and Chairman, Okehi Local Government Traditional Council, Kogi State, for authoring the booklet “Hard Drugs Destroy”, a publication that aligns with the agency’s mission of creating a drug-free Nigeria.

According to a letter signed by Colonel M. Aminu, Chief of Staff to the NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), stated that the agency’s leadership has personally read and appreciated the booklet, describing it as a strategic tool in the ongoing war against drug abuse campaign.

The letter further stated that the NDLEA Chairman/CEO, has appointed HRH as a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Ambassador, in his kingdom, recognising his invaluable contribution to the agency’s efforts.

The agency also pledged to collaborate with the Royal Father,  to ensure the booklet reaches schools, homes, and institutions, where its message can have a lasting impact.

The NDLEA’s recognition of the booklet’s value, recognises the importance of public-private partnerships in the fight against drug abuse in Nigeria.

Drug abuse is a significant public health concern in Nigeria, affecting various populations, Particularly youths and students.

A nationwide survey, reported a 14.4% prevalence of drug abuse among individuals aged 15-64 years. While studies among students, revealed prevalence rates of 20-40% and 20.9% among secondary school students and youths respectively.

Commonly abused drugs in Nigeria include; Cannabis, Opioids, Cough syrups, stimulants amongst others.
