From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Government, has inaugurated a high-powered committee to chart a sustainable framework for the co-existence of the Kwara State College of Education (COED), Ilorin, and the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Ministry of Tertiary Education’s conference hall, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, said the move was necessary to ensure harmony between both institutions, especially as KWASUED currently operates from the premises of COED.

“The committee was carefully constituted with representatives from both institutions to ensure inclusiveness. We want decisions that will be fair, forward-looking, and in the best interest of all stakeholders,” she said.

She added that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s establishment of KWASUED, reflects his determination to expand educational opportunities and position Kwara as a hub of academic excellence.

The committee is chaired by veteran administrator and former Permanent Secretary, Alhaji AbdulRahman Sidiq. Other members are drawn from the management of COED and KWASUED, academic unions, the Ministry of Justice, and the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

In his acceptance remarks, Alhaji AbduRahman Sidiq, assured that the committee would work with dedication and objectivity. “We fully understand the weight of this assignment. Our task is to recommend a model that guarantees peaceful co-existence and effective use of resources between COED and KWASUED. We will consult widely and ensure our recommendations are practical and sustainable,” he pledged.

The committee, which has three weeks to submit its report, is expected to outline strategies for facility sharing, clarify roles, identify possible challenges during the transition, and recommend solutions that will prevent conflicts and ensure smooth collaboration.
