From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Residents of Kwara State, witnessed a heavy security presence on Saturday as the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, carried out a statewide show of force aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful Easter celebration.

The operation, led by the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, saw coordinated patrols across major parts of the state, with personnel drawn from the Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency.

The move followed directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to strengthen security nationwide ahead of the Easter festivities and ensure the safety of lives and property.

Speaking on the exercise, Adekimi said the deployment was part of a proactive strategy to deter criminal activities and reassure residents of the command’s readiness to respond to any threat.

“This show of force is not only to boost public confidence but also to send a strong warning to criminal elements that Kwara is not a safe ground for unlawful activities,” he said.

The police boss noted that a significant number of personnel and operational assets had been strategically positioned across the state to maintain order before, during and after the celebrations.

He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, for what he described as “visionary leadership and consistent support,” while applauding other security agencies for their cooperation and professionalism.

Adekimi assured residents that the command would sustain the heightened security measures beyond the festive period, stressing that efforts were ongoing to ensure lasting peace and stability across Kwara State.
