From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command has thwarted a kidnapping plot and apprehended two suspects involved in criminal conspiracy and extortion.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, confirmed the arrests in Ilorin.

According to the statement, on January 9, 2025, at about 11:00 am, the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department acted on a report from two residents of Ifelodun Local Government Area, who had received threatening calls and messages demanding a ransom of ₦5 million to avoid being kidnapped.

Acting on intelligence, police detectives tracked and arrested Umar Sanni of Tarshan Girgi, Wushishi, Niger State. His arrest led to the capture of Dairu Isiaku of Iyana Share, Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State. Both suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement, including supplying phone numbers of potential victims and issuing threats to extort money.
