From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin.

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the dismissal of three officers involved in the murder of Abdulqoyyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

The officers are set to be arraigned in court in the coming days.

Ishola, a National Diploma student in Electronic Engineering, was killed on September 4, 2024, at the Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin while preparing for his sign-out ceremony.

Following the incident, both the Students’ Union Government and the institution’s management demanded justice for the late student.

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, the police confirmed the dismissal of AP/No 233828 Inspector Abiodun Kayode, AP/No 287410 Inspector James Emmanuel, and F/No 497868 Sergeant Oni Philip. “After a thorough investigation and an internal disciplinary trial, the three officers were found guilty of leaving their duty post, engaging in corrupt practices, and unlawfully exercising authority,” the statement read.

“Consequently, they have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force, with effect from October 4, 2024. They will be arraigned in court soonest.”

The police spokesperson emphasised that this action reflects the Nigeria Police Force commitment to justice and accountability.

“This decisive action highlights the unwavering commitment of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to upholding justice, professionalism, and accountability across the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said.

“Under his leadership, we are resolute in ensuring that officers conduct themselves with integrity, and any breach of ethical standards, particularly in cases leading to loss of life, will be met with a stiff response.”

The Kwara State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya, extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

“We share in their grief and remain committed to supporting them during this difficult time. We urge the public to trust the legal process as we remain dedicated to maintaining law and order within Kwara State,” the statement added. .
