The Kwara State Police Command, has joined the nationwide commemoration of 70 years of women in policing with a series of activities focused on promoting unity, wellbeing, and resilience among female officers.
The week-long event began on Friday in Ilorin with a 5km walkathon aimed at raising awareness on gender-based violence.
Dozens of female officers participated in the walk, which also served as a fitness exercise designed to enhance bonding, boost morale, and support emotional stability within the Force.

At the Police Officers’ Mess in GRA, Ilorin, where the programme continued, the Women Police Coordinator, CSP Agene Funmi, represented by CSP Sherifat Akorede, said the anniversary was not just a celebration of a milestone, but a reflection of the evolving role of women in law enforcement.
“Women officers are not just contributing to policing; they are shaping its future. Prioritising our physical and mental health makes us better at protecting our communities,” she said.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), ACP Afolabi Kazeem, applauded the professionalism and dedication of women in the Command. He described female personnel as a vital pillar of policing in Kwara.
“Our women have shown exceptional courage, professionalism and discipline. Their contribution to the peace and security of this state cannot be overstated,” he said.
A keynote lecture delivered by ACP, Dr Balogun Abdulquadri, focused on mental health and emotional resilience, addressing the psychological pressures faced by female officers, especially those balancing demanding work schedules with family responsibilities. He offered practical coping strategies and encouraged the Command to sustain support systems for mental wellbeing.
The event also featured goodwill messages, an interactive session, and group photographs.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to enhancing the welfare, mental health, and professional growth of all female officers.
The 70th anniversary activities will continue throughout the week with more engagements centred on empowering women in the Nigeria Police Force.
