In an effort to ensure that the forthcoming Local Government Election is free, fair, and credible, the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), has conducted a training workshop for Electoral Officers.

This initiative aims to equip them for effective performance during the election.

The training, organized by KOSIEC in collaboration with Equity Promotion Nigeria Limited, a Human Resources Development Consultancy, focuses on preparing Electoral Officers, ad hoc staff, and polling agents ahead of the October 19, 2024, election.

KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Nda Eri, emphasised the significance of local government elections as a vital opportunity for grassroots democracy.

He underscored the responsibility of electoral officers to ensure that every eligible vote counts and that every voter’s voice is heard.

Eri acknowledged the crucial role these officers will play in ensuring a credible, transparent electoral process that reflects the true will of the people of Kogi State.

He noted that the training is designed to equip them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and ethical standards for effective and impartial duty execution.

The KOSIEC Chairman urged participants to take the training seriously, highlighting that the integrity of the electoral process largely depends on their commitment. He called on the officers to uphold the principles of fairness, justice, and transparency.

In his welcome address, co-organizer Hon. Bamidele Suru of the Human Resources Development Consultancy, reiterated the necessity of the training, stating that this election will be a true representation of democracy, not a mere selection.

He expressed gratitude to the state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for allowing KOSIEC the autonomy needed to ensure a free and credible Local Government Election in the state.

Bamidele also announced that the training will be expanded to cover all three senatorial districts in Kogi State.
