On September 9, 2025, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Press Centre in Lokoja, Kogi State, played host to a momentous occasion that blended intellectual pursuit with personal celebration.

The event marked a triple milestone in the life of Mr. Ebenezer Adurodija—a former Permanent Secretary of the Kogi State Ministry of Information and Communication, and prolific writer—as friends, family, and colleagues gathered to honour his 60th birthday, his official retirement, and the launch of his four-volume publication, “The Adurodija’s Collection: A Journey Through Times and Perfection.”

This wasn’t just another book launch; it was the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to knowledge and truth. The four-volume set, a compilation of Adurodija’s writings, stands as a testament to his decades of experience and intellectual curiosity.

While speaking, Mr. Adurodija expressed his hope that the volumes would make a significant contribution to the body of knowledge, offering insights and perspectives on a wide range of topics, from media and culture to leadership, politics, and humanity, reflecting the depth and breadth of his experience and wisdom. The collection promises to be a valuable resource for generations to come.

During the session, Mr. Adurodija highlighted the significance of serving humanity as the ultimate purpose of leadership and life. He stressed that true greatness is measured not by power or accolades, but by the depth of one’s compassion and willingness to make sacrifices for others.

“Service is not measured in years, or in acknowledge, but in compassion, in sacrifice, and in quite determination to make life better for someone else. Position comes and go, but the impact of service endures in the heart of people. We live in a world full of challenges, poverty, injustice, inequality, and conflict. But I believe we also live in a world full of possibilities. Every act of kindness, every decision to uplift the weak, every effort to build bridges, rather than walls, draws us closer to a more just and compassionate society.

“As a man, I want each and every one of you never to lose sight of this truth, that greatness is not found in power, weight, nor recognition, but in the courage to give one’s self for the good of others.

“To serve humanity is to serve God, and in serving God, we find the greatest meaning of life. Let us continue to embrace service as a way of life. Service in our home, in our professions, and in our nature. For in serving humanity, we ensure that the generation to come will inherit not only our words, but in our ideas.

“At this point, let me delve into the second phase of why we are here. It is also with great joy that today I am privileged to present a project that is very dear to my heart. A four-volume book of works, titled “The Adurodija Collection, A Journey Through Times and Perspectives. This work is not just a compilation of ideas. It takes a taxi of reflection, experience, and inquiries into the human condition across different eras and diverse perspectives.

“The Adurodija Collection spans a wide variety of topics, ranging from media, history, culture, and society, to faith, leadership, and the philosophical questions that confront humanity. It takes in essence a dialogue between the past and the present, memory and imagination, thoughts and actions. Each volume stands as a pillar, yet together they form a bridge across time, connecting who we are, who we were, and who we aspire to be.

“The subtitle, A Journey Through Times and Perspectives, is deliberate, for what is knowledge if not a journey? What is history if not a record of shifting perspective? And what is life itself if not a continuous unfolding of moments that demands understanding? This collection invites us not merely to read, but to pause, reflect, and to question. It encourages us to see the world through many lenses, reminding us that truth is almost layered, and wisdom lies in embrace variety, Adurodija said.

As Mr. Adurodija marked his retirement, he expressed heartfelt gratitude for the privilege of serving, stating, “My heart is filled with gratitude for the opportunity to work with all of you. This milestone is not an end, but a reminder that every chapter of life is defined by the lives we touch and the service we render. Through my years in service, I’ve come to realize that serving humanity is the greatest calling of any individual,” he said.

Mr. Adurodija further expressed his gratitude to the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for the opportunity to serve as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information in Kogi State, adding that it was an assignment he took very seriously, and gave it he’s absolute best.

He also thanked his boss, Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, describing him as an outstanding leader, for granting him the autonomy to share his ideas and drive reforms—a rare privilege for public servants.

Acknowledging his boss, Mr. Adurodija said, “A lot of bosses or leaders in positions will cage you, but I’ve had the privilege of working with a Commissioner who gave me the leverage to explode. I only hope that I have not abused the privilege. He thanked the Commissioner on behalf of his family for opportunity given to him to serve the government.”

Speaking from the heart, Honourable Kingsley Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, praised the author as a “lesson in leadership and loyalty.” Fanwo highlighted how the author’s dedication to transparency and timely publication of government records saved the state over ₦10 billion.

“He works like a patriot, not like a civil servant. He is a great soul, a confidant, brutally truthful, and reliable.

“His loyalty was never in doubt, not for one second. His service to the state is second to none. I trusted him 200 percent, and he never disappointed”, Fanwo said.

The Commissioner further applauded Mr. Ebenezer Adurodija for his outstanding contributions to the Ministry, describing his efforts as a model of leadership, tireless and invaluable, praising his dynamic approach, pragmatism, and forward-thinking vision.

He also commended Adurodija’s technical expertise in successfully defending the state’s website against numerous cyber attacks, thereby ensuring the stability and transparency of its online governance systems.

“His departure from the civil service is not the end of his contributions,” Fanwo stated. “We have recommended him to the Governor for the role of Technical Adviser to the state Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Governor has approved his appointment as his expertise, integrity, and innovative spirit are assets we cannot afford to lose”, Fanwo said.

Fanwo further noted that Adurodija’s exceptional service has garnered recognition beyond Kogi State, particularly at the Progressive Governors Forum, where he represented the State with distinction. “His life and service embody the values of trust, service, and sacrifice,” Fanwo concluded, adding that Adurodija’s wisdom will continue to benefit not just Kogi State, but the entire nation.

The First Reviewer, Dr. Metiboba of Kogi State Polytechnic, hailed the book as “a compendium of wisdom and philosophy cutting across multiple disciplines.”

He summarised the four-volume book of 21 topics and 220 chapters in five phases, starting with his personal perception of the author. He described the author as a versatile individual with a wide range of expertise, including philosophy, teaching, and IT expert. The reviewer then moved to a general overview of the book, calling it a “book of books” and a comprehensive resource that touches on a variety of fields, from media to politics and religion.

Metiboba delved into the philosophy behind the book, which he highlighted as promoting open-mindedness and the exploration of new ideas, and ended this phase by calling the book a “must-buy for everybody.” He also highlighted its use as a valuable tool for learning, suggesting it could be an excellent educational resource for both students and children. According to the reviewer, the book could even be used as a textbook for subjects like basic journalism and cybersecurity, further demonstrating its practical application.

Finally, the Lecturer reviewed the book’s additional themes, noting that it is a “must-read” that addresses critical topics relevant to modern life. He pointed to its coverage of important issues like mortality, cybersecurity, and media manipulation, which he believes makes the book a valuable and timely resource for a wide audience. Overall, Metiboba’s review positions the extensive work as a vital resource for learning and personal growth that will be a valuable reference for future generations.

In a two-part review, Dr. Temitope Joel, a Lecturer at Kogi State Polytechnic, described the book as a “compendium of deep philosophy.” The first part of his review focused on personal and internal themes, highlighting the book’s exploration of concepts such as betrayal and self-discovery. Dr. Joel noted the book’s emphasis on the philosophy of the female gender, the importance of addressing personal character flaws, and the persistent power of positive thinking. He also pointed out the concept of the “enemy within,” which underscores the need to overcome internal conflicts.

“I have been in academics for two decades, but producing a 700-page book of this depth is no small task. I must now see the author as my senior, and I will gladly come for tutorials,” Joel remarked.

The second part of the review delved into broader societal and modern themes. Dr. Joel discussed the book’s commentary on the societal gender divide, citing the United States as an example. He identified key themes, including understanding the present moment and the pursuit of perfection. This section also reiterated the ongoing power of positive thinking and brought attention to the central belief that “the future is female.” The review concluded by touching on contemporary challenges such as social media’s role in crises and the idea of being “late to the altar.”

In his speech at the book launch, the MD/CEO of The Graphic Newspaper, Y J Itopa, praised the author, Mr. Adurodija, for his exceptional writing skills.

“Writing four extensive books that touch on nearly every aspect of human life to celebrate his 60th birthday and retirement from the Kogi State Civil Service is a powerful statement. It not only showcases his talent as a writer but also places him among the ranks of great intellectuals and philosophers who contribute to human knowledge,” Itopa said.

“With this incredible literary feat, Adurodija is letting the world know that his retirement from civil service tomorrow, September 9, 2025, will be far from dull. Congratulations, sir, as you move into a new career as a full-time writer of both literary and non-fictional works,” he added.

The event was graced by a stellar lineup of top government officials and dignitaries, including the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Media, Hon. Yusuf Adebayo Ohiare. The gathering also saw the attendance of political appointees, media executives, government functionaries, and journalists, all coming together to honour a man who had excelled in his career and dedicated himself to the pursuit of knowledge. Guests shared stories of Adurodija’s impact and spoke with anticipation about the knowledge contained within the pages of his new books.

The launch wasn’t just a ceremony; it was a reflection of a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire. As Mr. Adurodija transitions from public service, his voice and insights will now be preserved in a new, accessible format, inviting readers on a journey through his experiences and ideas.

Among the notable people who launched the book with sums of money were Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Hon. Bashiru Gegu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Media, Hon. Yusuf Adebayo Ohiare, The Graphic Newspaper, Radio Kogi, amongst others.

The celebration culminated in a symbolic gesture as Hajia Yussuf Nana Hauwa, Director-General of the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kogi), presided over the cutting of three cakes, marking Mr. Ebenezer Adurodija’s book launch, 60th birthday, and retirement ceremony. In her remarks, Hajia Hauwa lauded Adurodija as a workaholic, commending his dedication and invaluable contributions.

While presenting gifts to the outgoing Permanent Secretary, Fanwo said, “If we keep celebrating Mr. Adurodija’s legacies and hard work, others will emulate. Mr. Adurodija is a good person and a good leader. We are celebrating your stepping into another role in style. From the bottom of my heart, we’re indeed grateful. On behalf of my friends and the entire staff of the Kogi State Ministry of Information and Communication, agencies, parastatals like The Graphic Newspaper, Radio Kogi and others, we want to thank you by presenting this gift as a mark of honour and appreciation. May you enjoy good health and more of God’s favor as you bow out of active service.”

The event concluded on a high note, with guests showering Adurodija with applause for his remarkable scholarship and service. They hailed him as one of the most influential intellectuals to emerge from Nigeria’s public sector, acknowledging the profound impact of his work.
