The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Majebi, has commended the state police command for its professional and proactive approach to tackling insecurity in the state.
Justice Majebi gave the commendation when he led heads of courts in the state on a condolence visit to the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Kankarofi, at the command headquarters in Lokoja, over the death of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Ali Anslem.
Anslem died on August 27, 2026.
The Chief Judge was accompanied by the Grand Kadi of the Kogi State Sharia Court of Appeal, Hon. Abdulkareem Aruwa, and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Siyaka Usman.

Majebi said although the heads of courts had individually reached out to the CP following news of the officer’s death, they decided to pay the visit on behalf of the management and staff of the state judiciary.
He described death as an inevitable reality beyond human control, urging the police leadership and the family of the deceased to take solace in the fact that the Almighty determines the affairs of mankind.
According to him, death respects neither status nor position, stressing that what remains for the living is to pray for the repose of the deceased and seek the grace of God to live fulfilled lives.
He said, “One thing with life and death is that it is purely in the hands of the Almighty. Death respects nobody’s status, whether you are rich or poor, old or young, influential or not.
“Since we could not prevent his death, we count on the grace of God to console, comfort and strengthen you. We pray that you will not lose any of your officers.
“I urge you to focus on the lessons learnt from his demise because one day, we will all return to our Creator without notice.”
The Chief Judge also commended Kankarofi for what he described as his uncommon disposition and proactive response to security challenges since assuming office in the state.
He said the judiciary appreciated the CP’s efforts and prayed that God would preserve and strengthen him in the discharge of his responsibilities.
The Grand Kadi thereafter offered prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased officer.
Responding, CP Kankarofi thanked the leadership of the judiciary for identifying with the police command in its moment of grief, noting that the visit further demonstrated the cordial relationship between the two institutions.
He described the late ACP as one of the command’s best officers, saying he was gallant, reliable and committed to duty.
“The officer we lost was one of our best. He was a very gallant and always reliable officer. He put service first before any other thing, including himself.
“His death was shocking because, up till his death, he was still very dedicated. His dedication took its toll on him, which we did not know until his demise,” the CP said.
Kankarofi assured the judiciary that the police command would continue to prioritise the protection of judges and other judicial officers through the Judges’ Protection Unit.
He said the command had received tremendous support from the judiciary since his assumption of office, adding that the police would reciprocate the gesture by ensuring adequate security for the third arm of government.
“Since my assumption of duty, the command has received all the support needed from the judiciary and we have no reason to complain. Likewise, the judiciary receives my priority in the area of providing security because you are an arm of government that makes others stand,” he said.
The CP further commended Justice Majebi for his humility despite his exalted position, saying the Inspector-General of Police also holds the Kogi State judiciary in high regard.
He assured the Chief Judge that the Judges’ Protection Unit would remain active despite the withdrawal of personal police guards, urging the judiciary to call on the command whenever security support was required.
The command’s management team received the delegation, which also included the Chief Registrar of the High Court and other directors of the judiciary.
