The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi State branch, in synergy with some health-related organisations has organised a two-day medical outreach for people with various health challenges in Kogi Central.
The medical outreach which held from 7th-8th August at the Okene Reference Hospital, attracted thousands of people with various health challenges.
Speaking on the medical exercise, the Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) local organising committee (LOC), Dr. Tijani Godwin of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, disclosed that the outreach is an annual exercise which aim is to give to society the medical knowledge and skills possessed by members of the association.
Dr. Godwin who was a former Chairman of the state NMA, said that several Medical Doctors and other health volunteers were on hand to attend to patients. He added that patients went through the process of medical screening to determine those that needed drugs and those that require surgery.
He also disclosed that over 500 eye glasses were given out free to needy eye patients and assured that the annual exercise will hold next time in Kogi West.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulaziz Adams Adeiza, commended members of the state NMA for their commitment and sacrifices.
He expressed satisfaction that the exercise will complement the efforts of the state government in the area of qualitative health care delivery.
Commenting on the free medical exercise, a beneficiary, Mallan Usman Adaviruku, expressed the appreciation of others, adding that the outreach has brought relief to several patients who cannot afford the cost of treatment.
