The Kebbi State Police Command, has disclosed that one of its officers refused a ₦1,060,000 bribe offered by suspects attempting to compromise an investigation into alleged banditry activities in the state.

This was revealed in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the statement, three suspects, Umaru Garba (53) of Dangandu village, Alhaji Abubakar Mamman (51) of Maimaichi village, and Usman Muhammadu (50) of Bakaramba village, conspired to offer the bribe to the lead investigator at the premises of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi.

The bribe was allegedly meant to derail the investigation and prosecution of a case involving suspected Lakurawa terrorists, accused of banditry in the northern part of the state.

“The suspects were instantly arrested, and investigations are still ongoing. They will be charged to court for prosecution,” the statement read.
