The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has during the monitoring of Mock Accreditation in Ondo state, called for peaceful election come November 16, 2024.
He made the call while speaking with Journalists after monitoring the Mock accreditation exercise in the state.
Yakubu said one of the advantage of peaceful environment for the election is to allowed the timely movement of election materials to designated polling units across the state. He called on the electoral officials to resume early at their designated polling units on the election day.
Professor Yakubu equally used his presence in Ondo to interface with the Road Transport workers with the view to deliberate on measures put in place by the union in ensuring the timely movements of election materials, staffs among other things.
Those present at the discussion are: Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Marine Workers Union, and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) under the umbrella body of the NLC.
He advised them to avail their vehicles for the movements of INEC officials and the election materials.
This he said, will allow the early resumption at the polling units across the state.
INEC Chairman, however, warned the Union saying, “the Commission would not tolerate excuses, as adequate resources will be made available to the Unions for spontaneous movements.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, noted that the Commission relies on the three Transport unions for the seamless movement of Men and Materials throughout the election period, adding that the Security Agencies would collaborate with them to ensure their safety.
Responding, the three Unions, pledged to abide by the memorandum of understanding (MOU), which was jointly signed between the commission and the Union, aiming at achieving an effective service delivery throughout the election period.
