The Federal Government has said that, any of its Power Agencies who fail to meet up with the Ministry or Corporates’ expectations in the Power Sector will be sanctioned.
The Hon. Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, stated this on Tuesday in Abuja, while inaugurating and signing the performance contracts with the various agencies in the sector.
He explained that a performance-based contract is a type of contract that ties payment to specific performance metrics or outcomes, which contractors would be paid based on their actual performance.
According to the contractual agreement, “the contracts are commonly used in a situations where desired outcomes are clearly defined as the contractors have control over delivery.
“These contracts specify key performance indicators or metrics to measure performance and the payment would be made by those metrics.
“The government adopted this measure in the civil service to ensure optimum performance of its civil servants.
“We will not wait until the end of the year or end of the quarter before we start assessing ourselves. We need to get involved in the works on how you are progressing to achieve your final targets for the quarter”, he said.
He also said that, reward will be top-down on achievements just like the sanctions too will be top-down.
The sanction depends on what Mr. President would use against a non-performing minister and or a non-performing council.
This move is aimed at ensuring that all agencies in the power sector deliver on targets and contribute to the overall achievement of the ministry’s goals.
Adelabu however, expressed optimism that the signing of the performance contracts will compel each agency to deliver according to the agreement.
