Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has secured a second term in office after emerging victorious in the Ekiti State governorship election, with a landslide performance across the state’s 16 local government areas.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the Saturday election after he polled 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challengers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced the final result in the early hours of Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
Declaring the result, Oladiji said: “Therefore, I, Adenike, am the returning officer for the 2026 Ekiti governorship election. Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and stands re-elected.”
According to the results announced by INEC, Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes, while the PDP candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, garnered 40,533 votes. The ADC candidate, Dare Bejide, polled 12,872 votes.
The outcome underscored the APC’s dominance across the state, with Oyebanji recording commanding victories in several local government areas.
In Ilejemeje Local Government Area, the APC polled 8,984 votes, while the PDP and ADC secured 1,243 and 579 votes respectively.
At Ise/Orun Local Government, the ruling party recorded 12,907 votes against PDP’s 1,627 votes and ADC’s 365 votes.
Oyebanji also maintained a strong lead in Oye Local Government, where he secured 18,975 votes. The PDP polled 2,891 votes, while the ADC received 998 votes.
In Moba Local Government Area, the APC candidate garnered 20,500 votes, defeating the PDP, which secured 1,572 votes, and the ADC with 994 votes.
The governor continued his impressive showing in Ayekire/Gbonyin Local Government Area with 17,133 votes, while the PDP and ADC polled 1,563 and 314 votes respectively.
In Ikole Local Government Area, Oyebanji received 26,508 votes, compared to PDP’s 750 votes and ADC’s 812 votes.
The APC candidate also recorded one of his highest margins in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, where he polled 29,278 votes. The PDP scored 2,119 votes, while the ADC secured 511 votes.
Similarly, in Ekiti East Local Government Area, Oyebanji garnered 26,359 votes, while the PDP and ADC polled 2,795 and 1,730 votes respectively.
The resounding victory cements Oyebanji’s political strength in the state and gives the APC another four years at the helm of affairs in Ekiti State.
