Cyclist Asiribo wins Kwara’s first Gold at Gateway Games 2024

Team Kwara, has recorded its first major victory at the ongoing Gateway Games 2024 in Abeokuta, thanks to the outstanding performance of cyclist, Asiribo Olalekan, who clinched the gold medal in the men’s 200m cycling event.

Asiribo’s remarkable win did not only bring pride to the state’s contingent but also signaled the beginning of what could be a successful campaign for Kwara at the national sports fiesta. His triumph was the result of months of hard work, determination and commitment to excellence.

Speaking after his victory, Asiribo expressed gratitude to his coaches and teammates, saying, “This gold medal means everything to me. I trained hard for this moment, and I’m glad I could deliver for Kwara State. I thank my coaches and the entire team for their support.”

Officials from Team Kwara described the win as a morale booster and a clear indication that the state’s athletes are ready to compete at the highest level.

“This gold is a symbol of what we have been working towards. We’re proud of Asiribo and we believe more medals will come our way as the Games progress,” one official said.

The Gateway Games, hosted in Abeokuta, Ogun State, continues to draw athletes from across the country competing in various sporting events.
