It was a day of triple celebration as the Catholic Diocese of Lokoja was in a celebratory mood.
This day, was set aside to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the erection of the Diocese out of Benin and Oturkpo Dioceses on 6th July, 1964.
The Bishop and Local Ordinary of the Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Martin Olorunmolu, who expressed gratitude to God for the journey thus far, stated that the day was quite significant as it marked the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Diocese.
Bishop Olorunmolu noted that the Diocese has grown in leaps and bounds having 45 parishes, 87 Priests and 25 Seminarians who are in training.
In his homily, the President of the Priests’ Council, Rev. Fr. Casmir Okonkwo, gave a brief history of the Diocese as well all those who had pastored the Diocese in the past.
He spoke on the need not to underestimate God’s word as the word of God has the power to build and destroy, adding that wrong use and application has consequences.
As part of the activities to mark the celebration, there was the ordination of four candidates into the of Deacons as well as the ordination of four others into the order of the Priesthood.
During the rite of ordination, Most Rev. Dr. Olorunmolu, enjoined the Deacons and Priests, to do God’s will from the heart and serve the people with love.
The Bishop also announced the transfer/posting for some Priests, and also created a new quasi Parish-St. Augustine Quasi Parish at Unity Layout, Lokoja.
