The Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, has bagged Best Deputy Senate President from 1999 to date award by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The award was in recognition of his contributions towards the development of the country’s transport sector by the NURTW, Zone 6, Abuja.
The leadership of the union in the North West zone, comprising Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara states, Alhaji Aliyu Zaria, cited the launching of Kano North Transport Service as one of the reasons for considering the award.
Deputy Senate president received the award from the union’s National Vice President and Kaduna State Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Zaria, alongside the union’s dedicated chairmen from the zone.
In his acceptance speech, the Senate Deputy President, confirmed that the award was in recognition of his immense contributions to humanity, peaceful coexistence and nation building.
He added that, the 107 buses he injected into the transport sector of the zone was unprecedented.
According to him, “this recognition is not just a personal accolade but a testament to the collective efforts of all who believe in the ideals of selfless service, unity, and progress of our great nation.
“I am profoundly grateful to the NURTW for acknowledging my contributions to humanity, peaceful coexistence, and nation-building. These pillars are at the core of my public service journey and I remain committed to advancing them for the betterment of our people.
“Transport sector is critical to the development of all other sectors. As such, no investment is too much for it.
“I have plans to add 100 brand new buses to Kano North Transport Service this year”, Barau, he averred.
