Christians in Kwara State have been urged to translate their faith into practical support for others while taking their personal responsibilities and livelihoods seriously in the new year.
The Bishop of the Diocese of Kwara, Anglican Communion, Right Reverend Sunday Adewole, gave the charge during his New Year message delivered at the Cathedral of St. Barnabas Church, Ilorin, where he called on worshippers to use their God-given resources to uplift people around them.
According to the cleric, genuine Christianity must reflect in concern for the needy and disciplined living. He stressed that believers should be sensitive to the needs of others and offer help capable of bringing joy and relief to them.
“There is a need for those who have been blessed to assist those in need, because God expects us to be instruments of happiness in the lives of others,” Bishop Adewole said.
He cautioned against misplaced priorities, noting that spirituality should not be used as an excuse for negligence at work or in business.
He explained that being in church at the wrong time, especially when one is expected at work, does not reflect responsible Christian conduct.
“When it is time for you to be at your place of work, you should not be in the church,” he said. “God expects us to take our businesses and professions seriously and not be slothful.”
The bishop urged Christians to give every aspect of life its rightful attention, adding that while prayers are important, diligence and commitment are also key to prosperity.
“When you are seeking prosperity, you should seek God for divine intervention, but you must also show passion for what you do,” he stated.
Bishop Adewole encouraged worshippers to set clear goals for the year, describing goal-setting as a pathway to growth and sustainable development. He further advised them to remain prayerful and committed to the study of the Scriptures as a guide to making the right decisions in life.
He also admonished Christians to embrace contentment and discipline, noting that these virtues are essential for staying focused and eventually reaching their desired destination in life.
The bishop concluded by urging believers to approach the new year with renewed faith, responsibility and compassion for others, saying these values remain critical to personal and societal progress.
