Adamawa Tol Huba confers Governor Fintiri ‘Midala’ on valentine day

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state, has beem confered with the prestigious traditional title Midala Huba, by the Tol Huba, Alheri Bulus Nyako at the Chiefdom’s first year anniversary.

The event took place at the In Hong, the Hong Local Government Area Mini Township Stadium, to mark one year since the Governor presented a staff of office to the Tol Huba.

Presenting the title, the Tol Huba said “Midala” meaning Defence Minister, warrior, hero and defender in Huba (Kilba) tradition, described Governor Fintiri, as a strong leader who restored the dignity and autonomy of the Huba people after many years of struggle.

“Governor Fintiri deserves this honour for standing firm and doing what is right for our people”.

Recalled that, the creation of the Huba Chiefdom in December 2024 ended what community leaders described as over 100 years of struggle for recognition. Many speakers at the event called the anniversary a “liberation day” for the Huba people.

Activities featured at the event include cultural displays, traditional dances, a mini durbar procession and a football competition known as the Tol Alheri B Nyako Annual Tournament. A development plan for Hong Local Government was also unveiled during the program.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, who chaired the occasion. Other top government officials and political leaders from different parties were also present.

Speaking in a remark, Governor Fintiri appreciated the Huba people for the honour, even as he promised to continue to promot unity, fairness and development across the State.

As the Huba Chiefdom begins its second year, community leaders say they are hopeful for more progress and stronger unity among their people.Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustafa described the restoration of the Huba Chiedom as a milestone of profound “civilizational significance”.

Mustafa highlighted how organised pre-colonial system of governance and authority were disrupted by colonial realignments, yet the aspiration for recognition endured across generations with “patience, dignity, and abiding faith in fairness.”

“The creation of the Chiefdom is therefore not merely administrative in character; it is civilizational in significance,” Mustapha declared, framing the event as the formal acknowledgment of a resilient heritage that colonial interventions could not erase.

The former SGF lauded Governor Fintiri, crediting his visionary leadership for fulfilling a long-standing dream. He said, created the Huba Chiefdom in December 2024, as part of reforms establishing seven new chiefdoms and emirates, and presenting the staff of office to its paramount ruler on February 14, 2025, was honored during the celebrations with the traditional title Midala Huba.

“Your Excellency, what you did was not merely to create a Chiefdom; you restored institutional dignity and corrected a long historical imbalance,” Mustafa expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Huba community for ending what leaders have described as over 120 years of chieftaincy struggle and subjugation under previous administrative structures.
