From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Controversial Nigerian music artiste, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command over allegations bordering on criminal defamation and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest followed a petition filed by one Mr. Okunola Saheed, widely known as “Osupa”. The petition accuses the singer of criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, and the use of abusive language.

“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin,” the statement read.

Acting on the warrant, police operatives arrested Portable in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, April 13, 2025, at about 7:25 p.m. He was subsequently transferred to Ilorin for further investigation.

The police said Portable’s statement was obtained in the presence of legal representatives from both sides, and that arrangements are being made to charge him to court.

“The Kwara State Police Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served in a fair and transparent manner,” Ejire-Adeyemi added.

The police also urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours, promising to provide updates as the case develops.
