From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Adekimi Ojo, has promised to strengthen security in the state while upholding discipline, professionalism, and community partnership.

Addressing journalists at his maiden press briefing at the police headquarters in Ilorin, CP Ojo assured residents that his administration will not tolerate any form of criminal activity or police misconduct.

“There will be no sanctuary for criminals in this state,” he declared. “I have zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct such as extortion and human rights violations. Officers found wanting will face the full weight of the law.”

The police commissioner, who previously served as Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations in the state, described Kwara as a special place in his heart.

He emphasised his commitment to preserving its status as a peaceful and secure state, noting its strategic location between the North and South of Nigeria.

He said the police under his leadership will adopt a proactive approach by working closely with vigilante groups, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to prevent crime and enhance public safety.

“Under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, we will deepen the principles of community policing that have proven effective in maintaining peace,” he said.

He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society, the press, and fellow security agencies to support the mission of building a safer Kwara where, in his words, “every citizen can sleep with their two eyes closed.”

The police boss also acknowledged the importance of public trust in law enforcement, stating, “A society thrives when there is trust between its institutions and its citizens. I will work assiduously to gain the trust of the good people of Kwara State.”

CP Ojo commended journalists for their role in shaping public opinion and pledged to maintain a transparent and collaborative relationship with the media.

“When we succeed, let us celebrate together; when we face challenges, let us collaborate to find solutions,” he concluded.
