The Ogun State Government, has reaffirmed its commitment to child protection following the arrest of a private school headmaster, Mr. Ashafa Afelaja, in Eyin Ogbe, Igode, near Ogijo, over allegations of sexually abusing a female pupil.
Confirming the arrest, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, disclosed that a concerned resident alerted authorities, prompting a swift response.
“Our rescue team responded to distress calls from Adamo, Ikorodu, a border community, where a school headmaster was accused of physically assaulting a young female pupil. The suspect is in police custody, while the victim and her mother are receiving medical and psychological support,” Adeleye said.
She assured that the state government would ensure justice for the victim and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence.
“The administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun will not condone any form of child abuse, domestic violence, or gender-based violence. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases,” she emphasised.
In another incident, Adeleye revealed that a four-year-old boy, allegedly brutalised by his father in Igboko, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, had been rescued.
“The father has been taken into police custody, and legal processes are underway to ensure justice. The child is stable and responding well to treatment,” she stated.
She called on residents to collaborate with the government in the fight against child abuse, stressing that safeguarding children remains a collective responsibility.
