Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has publicly forgiven Sikiru Olaboye, one of the individuals who attempted to assassinate him during the 2006 Oroki Day Celebration in Osogbo.

Aregbesola, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former Minister of Interior, revealed on Sunday that Olaboye had recently called in a local radio station in Osogbo to seek his forgiveness.

“Earlier today, I received Sikiru Olaboye, one of the men who attempted to assassinate me during the 2006 Oroki Day Celebration in Osogbo,” Aregbesola wrote on his verified Twitter page.

He added, “I was informed that he called into a local radio station in Osogbo a few weeks ago to seek my forgiveness.”

The former governor further stated that he bore no grudges against Olaboye or anyone else involved in the attack, emphasising his belief in divine mercy.

“Today, while praying for him, I assured him that I hold no grudges against him or anyone else involved. I neither harboured resentment nor sought revenge after God spared me from that attack,” Aregbesola said.

“It is God alone who has the power to forgive all our shortcomings. As His servants, I pray that He forgives both his and mine. Aameen!” he added.

Aregbesola’s public gesture of forgiveness has sparked widespread reactions from his supporters and followers on social media. Many have commended his act of reconciliation, describing it as a demonstration of true leadership and statesmanship.
