Oba Joel Oyatoye crowned as Oloro of Oro Kingdom After 234 Years

Oro community in Kwara State, came alive with vibrant cultural displays as Oba Joel Olaniyi Oyatoye Titiloye Olufayo II, was officially crowned the Oloro of Oro Kingdom.

The historic coronation, which marked the return of his lineage to the throne after 234 years, was steeped in traditional rites performed by the Oloro-in-Council.

The event attracted dignitaries from across Nigeria, including political figures, royal fathers, and cultural leaders.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, was represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Hon. Femi Whyte. Delegations from Senators Saliu Mustapha (Kwara Central) and Lola Ashiru (Kwara South) were present, alongside Hon. Raheem Tunji Olawuyi Ajulopin, representing Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke Ero Federal Constituency.

Notable attendees included Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO); Retired Rear Admiral Azeez Afolayan, the Asiwaju of Oro Kingdom; Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, Kwara State Commissioner for Communications; and Oba Ismail Yahyah Alebiosu, the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, who led traditional rulers from Igbomina land.

Governor AbdulRazaq, in a goodwill message delivered by Hon. Agbaje, emphasised the importance of the new monarch’s role in uniting the community and preserving its heritage.

“His ascension is a call to serve and preserve the culture, heritage, and unity of Oro Kingdom,” he said, pledging government support for traditional institutions and developmental initiatives.

The Olupo of Ajase-Ipo and Chairman of Irepodun Traditional Council, Oba Ismail Yahyah Alebiosu, commended the smooth selection process and urged the new Oloro to prioritise unity and collaboration.

“The Kabiyesi has settled on the throne with divine support. He should open his doors and study the complexities of Oro Kingdom carefully,” Oba Alebiosu stated.

Highlighting the cultural significance of the event, Otunba Ajiboye of NICO noted the coronation as a critical step in preserving Nigeria’s rich heritage.

Similarly, Dr. Thomas Adewumi, founder of Thomas Adewumi University, lauded the industrious spirit of the Oro community and revealed plans for a tertiary health institution in Kwara South.

“We are partnering with the administration to establish this vital facility,” Dr. Adewumi said.

The coronation, blending traditional and modern elements, has been hailed as a unifying milestone for the Oro Kingdom, urging all sons and daughters to support the new monarch for the progress and growth of the community.
