NUC approves 10 new academic programs for KWASU

The National Universities Commission (NUC), has approved 10 new undergraduate programs for Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, to commence in the 2024/2025 academic session.

This was disclosed in a statement by Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, Acting Director of University Relations, and made available to newsmen in Ilorin on Wednesday.

The approval, conveyed in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, and signed by the NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, follows a successful resource verification exercise conducted by experts from the commission.

The approved programs include: B.Sc. Estate Management, B.Sc. Geography, B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning, B.Sc. Mining Engineering, B.Sc. Marketing, B.Sc. Sociology, B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies, B.Sc. Physiology, B.Sc. Human Anatomy, B.Sc. Cyber Security.

According to the letter dated December 10, 2024, the programs will run in full-time mode, with a directive for the university to ensure the availability of adequate human and material resources to support the programs.

Reacting to the development, KWASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the approval as timely, noting it reflects the institution’s commitment to producing skilled graduates who will positively impact society.

“This milestone, which increases the number of undergraduate programs at KWASU to 80, is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the readiness of our university to train quality human resources for national development,” Professor Jimoh stated.

He commended the NUC for its support and assured stakeholders of KWASU’s resolve to maintain high academic standards in all programs.
