– says not our student

From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The management of Kwara State University (KWASU), has dismissed claims that the victim of a recent killing in Tanke, Ilorin, was a student of the institution.

This follows reports circulating after the tragic death of 21-year-old Suleiman Olayinka, who was killed in an incident involving the Kwara State Police.

The police have since detained three officers linked to Olayinka’s death.

According to the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Olayinka had been under investigation for charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust, which led to a police inquiry.

The three officers involved in the incident are currently being investigated.

In response, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, Acting Director of University Relations at KWASU, clarified that Olayinka had voluntarily withdrawn from the university in the 2018/2019 academic session while in his second year in the Department of Statistics.

“The management of the Kwara State University strongly sympathizes with the family of the deceased and prays that God gives the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” Dr. Aliyu stated.
