Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, has given the green light to a minimum wage of ₦72,500 for Kogi State civil servants, effective immediately. This move is expected to bring relief and improved living standards to thousands of workers in the state.
The Governor also announced a one-year tax suspension on the newly approved minimum wage for Kogi State civil servants.
The Governor announced the approval during the unveiling ceremony, shortly after signing the agreement.
Governor Ododo emphasized that the new minimum wage of ₦72,500 for Kogi State civil servants should take effect immediately, enabling employees to cope with the current economic challenges in Nigeria.
This move is a significant step towards promoting inclusive growth and reducing poverty, aligning with the country’s goal of achieving a more equitable society. By implementing this new wage, Governor Ododo aims to support the well-being of civil servants and contribute to the nation’s progress.
Mr. Elijah Evenemi, Chairman of the Minimum Wage Committee, emphasised that the newly agreed-upon minimum wage is a win for the people, not a political victory.
This move prioritises the well-being of the masses, ensuring they receive fair compensation for their work. By focusing on the needs of the people, the minimum wage agreement demonstrates a commitment to social welfare and economic development.
He expressed gratitude to the Governor for granting the committee the autonomy to operate freely and achieve their shared objectives. This gesture enabled the committee to work efficiently, make unbiased decisions, and drive progress toward their common goal .
