Edo poll: Okpebholo, Deputy, receives certificate of return from INEC

The Edo State Governor-elect and his Deputy, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Dennis Idahosa, has both received their certificates of return from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on in Abuja.

The National Commissioner in charge of Edo State 2024 governorship election, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, who Presented the certificates on behalf of the INEC Chairman, Processor Mahmood Yakubu, said the presentation was according to the law and electoral act of 2022.

It could be recalled that last Saturday INEC declared Monday Okpebholo of APC winner of the Edo governorship election haven secured 291,667 votes to defeat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) with 22,763 votes.

In an interview with the pressmen after receiving the certificate, Monday Okpebholo, appreciated the people of Edo for giving him the mandate to serve them and pledged to work for the betterment of the state.

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who also witnessed the presentation said that, Okpebholo had the experience and blueprint to develop the state.

“Edo State was an APC state. Later on, the governor as a nomadic politician, cross carpeted to PDP, but today, we fought for it and we have recovered our state for the APC.

“I am so happy because essentially, our governor-elect and experienced politician, a distinguished senator has a blueprint for the development of Edo State and we assure you, you will see great changes,” he said.

  1. Senator Adams Oshiomholeon his part, said that the people of Edo were happy for having a governor that would not be fighting people and institutions, but would respec88t them.
