From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KwSUBEB), has announced plans to recruit 1,611 teaching and non-teaching staff for public basic schools across the state’s 16 local government areas.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of KwSUBEB, Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to the statement, which was signed by the Board’s Press Secretary, Atere Abiola Ameenat, the recruitment will include 695 holders of Bachelor’s degrees in Education (B.Ed), 605 NCE holders, 200 security guards, and 111 other non-teaching staff. These positions have been approved to address staffing needs that arose from retirements, deaths, and transfers out of the state.

Prof. Adaramaja, emphasised that the recruitment will be conducted using a community-based approach, ensuring that candidates are selected from the local government areas or nearby communities where their services are most needed.

He noted that the exercise aligns with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to enhancing the education sector at the grassroots level.

To ensure stability in the education system, successful candidates will be required to sign a five-year bond, committing them to remain in their assigned locations without transferring.

This measure is aimed at addressing the challenge of teachers frequently leaving rural areas.

The recruitment process is expected to last three weeks, with the schedule for the exercise to be announced soon.

“This timeline is designed to ensure that all selected candidates are in place before the new academic session begins in September 2024.”

Prof. Adaramaja assured that all 16 LGAs will be fairly represented in the recruitment process, reflecting the government’s dedication to equitable distribution of educational resources throughout Kwara State.
